[jira] [Created] (LEGAL-343) Can we use brand icons in Apache NetBeans, specifically browser icons?

lbruun created LEGAL-343:
----------------------------

Summary: Can we use brand icons in Apache NetBeans, specifically browser icons?
                 Key: LEGAL-343
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LEGAL-343
             Project: Legal Discuss
          Issue Type: Question
            Reporter: lbruun

Project: Apache NetBeans (incubating)

Prior to the donation, Oracle removed a number of files from the donation zip. We are tracking those changes [here|https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NETBEANS/Donation+changes+to+be+reviewed].

For each of the changes we're trying to figure out what to do. Most of it is trivial. Stuff which couldn't be donated by Oracle because it wasn't theirs to give away, but which can be part of Apache NetBeans if acceptable license, with proper attribution, etc.

One of the file sets removed by Oracle is *browser icons*. This is tracked by JIRA issue [NETBEANS-126|https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-126].

Question: Would there be any problem in putting such brand icons back into Apache NetBeans?

The question isn't about the _specific_ art-work we've chosen to use. We may choose something else than in the JIRA issue. It is more general about the use of brand / trademark icons, in this case browser icons.
