Re: ....how to get tomcat running ? .........

I am running into the same types of problems with
Linux 7.0 running on a pentium....

Has anyone here installed tomcat4 on Linux on a
pentium box....why is this so painful? the previous
install 3 and less were straightforward....

Philippe. (totally frustrated)

Re: ....how to get tomcat running ? .........

Posted by David Smith <dn...@cornell.edu>.
In Linux land, a seg fault in Tomcat is typically caused by a bug in Sun's
JVM 1.3. Try adding 'ulimit -s 2048' to startup.sh before the line calling
catalina.sh. The bug specifically has to do with how Sun's JVM handles
memory when it sees 'unlimited' for a stack space in the Linux environment.
Couldn't tell you the exact bug parade number, but it's posted at Sun's site.
 I've heard it's fixed in JDK 1.4, but I haven't tried it.

You probably haven't (like I didn't when I first installed TC 4)
read the Linux-specific paragraphs in RELEASE-NOTES-4.0.1.txt
that discuss problems with the stack and how to fix them.

Have a look, it might help. Worked for me.
