[DISCUSS] Async-ifying the weekly meeting
Hi folks,
For a very long time, long before incubation, there has been a weekly
AsterixDB meeting at 10am pacific, open to anyone who might be
interested in the project. This worked pretty well for the longest
time. However, as the team has gotten more diverse and especially
diverse in terms of time zones, I think participation has waned
somewhat.
Therefore in the spirit of increasing engagement, as well as
conducting more business directly on list, I propose the following:
- There will be a thread that I start on every Friday, before or
around 10am pacific, that will effectively be the replacement for this
meeting.
- I will, in the process of creating this thread, basically perform
the first part of the meeting, where there are top-level
announcements, and I triage and update the status of every issue that
came in over the past week
- For APEs that have some pending status- I will reply on the thread
for the APE about what might need to happen with that. Otherwise, I
will just note the state as I do today.
- For blocked patches, I will note them again today as usual.
- Lastly, and the largest change, is the individual status portion.
Normally here, everyone in the call briefly talks about what they have
been upto this week. Instead, now everyone who would like to talk
about what they did in the week, should reply to the post to do so.
This will be open for 24h.
- In the process of the individual updates, folks can and should chime
in, and engage in discussion and perhaps break out into other threads
as necessary.
What does everyone else think?
- Ian

Sounds good! Folks, please send a brief status for the week in response to
these Friday messages - it would be great to get that from everyone who’s
actively working on things! It should only take 5 minutes to do this and
we will get broader visibility back. Thanks!
Cheers,
Mike
