+1. I think it will be very helpful to debug checkpoint slowness. our team created internal patch to track the uploading part in
[https://github.com/apache/flink/blob/5b71c7f2fe36c760924848295a8090898cb10f15/flink-state-backends/flink-statebackend-rocksdb/src/main/java/org/apache/flink/contrib/streaming/state/snapshot/RocksIncrementalSnapshotStrategy.java#L319]
which is a very trivial approach. In general, the upper api should be more flexible so that different implementation (FS, RocksDB) can decide what metrics to expose, instead of just sync and async.
