Currently, Airavata facilitates user data transfer through multiple mechanisms. HTTP file upload and download through the portal and an SFTP implementation build over apache mina. 

NextCloud seems to be a promising alternative cloud data storage manager similar to commercial variants. The license of the server is GPL but Airavata does not need to ship the next cloud server but only can provide clients with compatible licenses. This is very similar to the MariaDB. 

This project is to explore the integration of NextCloud with Airavata's Django Portal and Rich Client interface. 

Further exploration can include the use of NextCloud for server side data transfers suplimenting the current SCP based tasks.
