IPMC Board report - missing podling reports for DLab, Marvin-AI and Pinot

Hi,

3 podlings have failed to report on time and will be asked to report next month. They are Dlab, Marvin-AI and Pinot.

If the mentors of these projects would be so kind to make the following happen it would be appreciated:
a) That the PPMC is encouraged to discuss the report (preferable on-list) ahead of the deadline.
b) That all the PPMC members are signed up to the dev and private lists and so see the report reminders or email about late reports.
c) That the PPMC is aware that it is their responsibility to create and submit the report.
d) Someone responds to the report reminders so it's known it’s been worked on.
e) That the next report now due in a month is submitted before the deadline.

A good indication of mentor inactivity is not submitting reports in on time, and while missing one is not a big deal but if several in a row are missed it a good indication that the podling probably needs new mentors. Podlings if you mentors are not helping you (and I’ve not looked to see if they are) please bring this up on the the general@ incubator list and we’ll try to help.

Thanks,
Justin

Hi colleagues,

I've submitted report couple of times, but none of the time have it been uploaded to Apache Wiki.

Could you please check. Also see email attached and below as well.

Thanks.

DLab

DLab is a platform for creating self-service, exploratory data science
environments in the cloud using best-of-breed data science tools.

DLab has been incubating since 2018-08-20.

Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation:

 1. Execute the SGA between EPAM and the ASF so code can be imported.
 2. Move bug tracking system including project backlog to Apache issue tracking system – in progress
 3. Work toward an initial Apache release – in progress, first release planned for EOY

Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be aware of?

Nothing at this point of time.

How has the community developed since the last report?

We are not at the stage of building community so far, but we hosted two workshops recently and hope to have ˜2 potentials contributors from it. Also we hosted two conferences and hope to have some contributors from it.

How has the project developed since the last report?

Initial committers have submitted their Apache ICLA, subscribed to all mailing lists and created Jira accounts. Functionality added:
· Added support of Java libraries installation
· Added support of Spark configuration from Web UI
· Implemented support for deployment into two VPC’s for AWS version
· Added support for DLab to not use public IP’s for MS Azure
· Redesign of DLab Web UI for roles management – in progress
· Update version of Zeppelin/Spark/EMR – in progress
· Scheduler in idle time – in progress

How would you assess the podling's maturity?
Please feel free to add your own commentary.

  [X] Initial setup
  [X] Working towards first release
  [ ] Community building
  [ ] Nearing graduation
  [ ] Other:

Date of last release:

This is going to be our first release. Target date EOY.

When were the last committers or PPMC members elected?

We are still operating with the set of initial committers.

Have your mentors been helpful and responsive or are things falling
through the cracks? In the latter case, please list any open issues
that need to be addressed.

Mentors are very helpful and try to resolve any issues immediately.
     Open issues:
· None of contributors have access to create JIRA SCRUM/Kanban boards (we have migrated the tickets, but can’t formaly create a release/sprint)

Since Mentor signoff is due next Tuesday then you may need to reflow at that time.

Thanks for checking that all sounds fine to me and nothing more needs to be done.

I forgot, and until today didn’t have access to the machine with all my Apache credentials.

> Reminder were sent to the dev list and this list. Are the mentors signed up to the dev list or this list? Are the mentors active? Does the project need new mentors?

2/3 mentors are active. 3/3 are signed up for both lists. I don’t feel the project needs additional mentors, but am open to adding a mentor if there’s interest.

My apologies for the inconvenience.

Do you know why this is the case? Reminder were sent to the dev list and this list. Are the mentors signed up to the dev list or this list? Are the mentors active? Does the project need new mentors?

Thanks for that. However I had already reflowed the report (lines need to be a maximum of 76 character and no double blank lines) and now will need to do so again. late reports cause extra work.

Thanks,

Hi Justin,

DLab prepared a report and posted it to the dev@ list, but unfortunately we mentors failed to get it posted to the wiki.

I’ve since posted it. I’ll work with the podling to get them access to the wiki.

Hi Justin,

DLab prepared a report and posted it to the dev@ list, but unfortunately we mentors failed to get it posted to the wiki.

I’ve since posted it. I’ll work with the podling to get them access to the wiki.
