What about uploading the artifact with a .tmp exentension and then performing a move? Or alternatively deleting the artifact before starting the upload?

Body:
The issue is that the server that contains the repository will not let me do a chgrp on a file I do not own. This is a Solaris 2.6 machine but I can create it on a Solaris 9 box as well. Even if permissions are set correctly on the file. So for instance take the following file :
ls -l ai-resin-free-20041022.205241.tar.gz.md5
-rw-rw-r-- 1 swashingtonstaff 32 Oct 22 15:53 ai-resin-free-20041022.205241.tar.gz.md5
If I try to do a chgrp staff I get :
chgrp staff ai-resin-free-20041022.205241.tar.gz.md5
chgrp: ai-resin-free-20041022.205241.tar.gz.md5: Not owner

you need to ensure the correct permissions are used when originally deploying the artifact (ie make sure your coworkers use artifact 1.4.1), or manage the permissions on the remote repository (use an appropriate umask). Maven can not override these for you.
