Fixed asset depreciation and GL mappings

Hi

Once you have set-up the GL mappings against a fixed asset, how do you start
to depreciate the asset? 

I can create a quick transaction against the asset but that uses different
GL codes compared to the ones on the mapping screen and I am not sure if
that is the correct way to do it, I cant see which service depreciates the
asset and how the GL mappings are used.

Anyone have any ideas?
