SHARED MEMORY ACCESS BY MULTIPLE CHILD PROCESSES

We are running Apache 1.3.12 with mod_perl 1.21 on a Sun E250 server using
Solaris 2.6. We're using AuthDBI as our PerlAuthenHandler and have set the
cache and cleanup times to 900 and 3600 seconds respectively. We have 5
child httpd processes running and need to ensure they all have access to
shared memory to see cached username:password info. IPC::Shareable and
Storable are installed, but the cache is not being shared. The AuthDBI
debugger shows each request accessing a different child process, checking
the cache (and failing), then making a database hit to authenticate the
user. Over time, each process' memory space will cache the
username:password, but we're making 4 extra trips to the database.

If anyone has any insight/experience using shared memory to cache across
child processes, or could recommend any other means to minimize database
calls, please let me know..Thanks in advance....

AuthDBI does not use IPC::Shareable or Storable.
Read the module documentation on how to enable the
use of shared memory.
