Retirement of HelpWanted.apache.org
[Bcc to commons,curator,cxf,datafu,directory,groovy,httpd,impala,jmeter,mahout,myfaces,oodt,openoffice,poi,sis,tika
so replies are directed to comdev only]
Comdev have decided that the HelpWanted app should be retired as it is
not worth the maintenance effort -- it is barely used.
It will be shutting down.
AFAICT, only HTTPD and POI link directly to the HelpWanted website.
Those projects will need to adjust some web pages, as all traffic will
be redirected to a holding page.
Other projects have some outstanding entries (though they may by now
be obsolete).
A JSON dump of all 43 entries (sorted by project, created) can be found at:

Folks, I believe there is nothing for us to do since we removed our
link into the helpwanted app just over 2 years ago since it was
getting out of date and we weren't keeping the info in sync with Jira:

Having said that, currently we use the "contrib" label in Jira to track issues:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GROOVY-11482?jql=project%3DGROOVY%20and%20labels%20%3D%20contrib%20AND%20resolution%3DUnresolved
I'll note that a few other projects instead use the "help-wanted"
label. Perhaps that is more intuitive. Thoughts?
I'll also note that we haven't added many "contrib" labels recently.
If anyone has some free cycles, finding and labelling a few issues
would be a valuable contribution.

I imagine it's barely used because no one knows it exists? Perhaps it
can be promoted a bit instead? It sounds like a useful tool.
How much maintenance effort are we talking about?

Is there a recommended alternative? Most sites of this kind only support projects that use GitHub Issues, so Apache projects which use JIRA issues are at a disadvantage.
