Europeana LOD demo using Apache Stanbol - hallojs/annotate.js

Hi all,

the Europeana ThoughLab webpage currently features a Stanbol/VIE based
Demonstration on

    http://pro.europeana.eu/thoughtlab/enriching-metadata

See the article at the bottom of the page.

This demo is hosted on the IKS development server and is based on the
Linked Open Data set provided by the Austrian National Library view
the LOD endpoint of Europeana.

Special thanks to Andreas Gruber - who initially indexed this Dataset
- and Szabi Grünwald - for the customization that allows to add images
of extracted Entities to the current webpage.

best
Rupert Westenthaler

Dear Rupert,

My name is Valentine Charles and I'm a colleague of Antoine Isaac at Europeana.

We have decided to feature Stanbol and the two demos you have produced
in our ThoughLab:
http://pro.europeana.eu/thoughtlab/enriching-metadata . We are using
ThoughLab to feature prototypes that have been developed by the
network using the Europeana data. You will find the article at the
bottom of the page. Could you tell me if you are happy with the text?

Don't hesitate to contact me if you would to change something.

Best wishes,

Valentine

we had a short talk after my Apache Stanbol presentation [1] at the

WWW2012 conference in Lyon.

During this talk I mentioned that we do have a Stanbol demonstration

that uses data provided by Europeana. As part of the preparation for

the next IKS community workshop [2] I made again available on the IKS

development server at

http://dev.iks-project.eu:8081/enhancer/chain/austrian-national-library

If you post text to this Enhancement Chain it will be linked with the

labels of pictures available by the Austrian National Library (ANL).

The linking is based on the Europeana LOD data for the ANL available

via [3].

Note that you will need to use German speaking text as only German

labels are available. As example you could use text from

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johann_Strau%C3%9F_%28Sohn%29

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_Aussee

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Totes_Gebirge

We also set up an demonstration that uses this Stanbol Enhancement

Chain to Analyze Text written in a HTML5 RichTextEditor (similar as

shown on Slide 9 of [1]). In addition the pictures of accepted

annotations are inserted below of the editable region. This demo is

available at

http://dev.iks-project.eu/demos/hallo-europeana/

For both cases clicking to extracted Entities will bring you to the

according Website showing the Record on

Hello,

Just to add a point: the metadata made available through the Europeana Linked Open Data pilot are under CC0 license. However the images are still under different licenses stated by the institutions partners with Europeana. Some are in the public domain but not all. This information is provided in the data through the element edm:rights.

Best,
Valentine

Exactly! If you could add a plugin to your image widget that

* checks all properties if values end with image extensions (*.png, *.jpg, ...)
* check if content of well known properties provide image data (e.g.
foaf:depiction ...)

it would even work with most of the Entities without any kind of
customization. This would be also true for Europeana as it provides
the link to the URL of the image as value of the "dc:subject" property

Great news! Give that the Europeana data appears to be public domain
(http://pro.europeana.eu/linked-open-data), this might even be an
interesting default provider of image suggestions for Create.js.
