[PR] feat(runtime): bind sessions to immutable connection identity [maka]
me2seeks opened a new pull request, #3864:
URL: https://github.com/apache/maka/pull/3864
## Summary
- persist the canonical Connection ID alongside each Session model selection and snapshot it into AgentRuns
- resolve bound execution and OAuth credentials by Connection ID, rejecting slug reuse and identity mismatches
- lazily adopt legacy slug-only Sessions with a catalog snapshot plus metadata CAS before creating the first provider-bearing AgentRun
## Legacy behavior
Legacy slug-only records remain readable. On the first provider-bearing execution, the Runtime Host binds the current catalog entity found by slug under Session revision/CAS, then revalidates it by ID. If that slug was deleted and reused before this upgrade, historical identity cannot be reconstructed; this change does not claim otherwise. Once bound, a missing Connection fails closed and never falls back to another Connection with the same slug. Retired `fake` backend Sessions remain outside Connection adoption and preserve their existing product error.
## Scope
This change does not modify Runtime Host wire operations, surface UI, or onboarding, and does not bump `RUNTIME_HOST_COMPATIBILITY_EPOCH`. The explicit “original account deleted” recovery UX remains follow-up work under #3852.
## Testing
- core: 657 passed
- storage: 961 passed, 16 skipped, 0 failed
- runtime-host: 1,230 passed, 9 skipped, 0 failed
- core/storage/runtime/runtime-host typecheck and build passed
- focused runtime identity tests passed (normal turns, continuation, compaction, inline child execution, and configured subagents)
- legacy fake backend regression preserves the existing product error without Connection adoption
The full runtime suite is not claimed as a clean gate under Node 26 because unrelated model-stream and node-pty cases fail in this environment.
Closes #3860
Parent: #3852

CI freshness note for head `844ecff82`:
- `windows_recovery` passed;
- hosted `test` failed only in Storage `artifact-writer-lock.test`: `bundle export holds Artifact authority through selected-session projection` observed a random Session UUID as missing;
- the exact failing test passed locally on this head (1/1);
- the downstream stacked #3882 head `e69f48e5d`, which contains all of `844ecff82`, then passed the complete hosted `test` and `windows_recovery` jobs.
I cannot rerun the original Apache job without repository admin permission, so the #3864 check remains visibly red and still needs a maintainer rerun if branch-level green status is required. No code claim is being made from the downstream check alone; this records the exact failure and independent freshness evidence.

Addressed the current-head ScheduledTask account-rebinding review:
- freeze `llmConnectionId` with the task's slug/model and require it for every new or replaced `agent_run` effect;
- keep legacy slug-only tasks readable and non-effect editable, but fail them before execution identity is allocated;
- resolve Host-authored Session creation through Storage's atomic bound `(connectionId, connectionSlug)` seam, including account identity in create idempotency;
- re-check the frozen ID/slug/model inside the Session admission lease, rejecting account changes that race between preflight and root admission;
- bump the Runtime Host compatibility epoch to 51 and add delete/reuse, legacy, idempotency, persisted-corruption, and deterministic admission-race coverage.
Validation: Core 16/16; Storage workflow 14/14; focused Runtime Host protocol/coordinator 59/59; real UDS slug-reuse 1/1; Core/Storage/Runtime/Runtime Host typechecks; Biome and `git diff --check`.

Current head `b1ea437d3` addresses the latest review cleanups: the unreachable legacy guard is removed, the availability helpers now require `backend`, and the existing Desktop/TUI recovery notices explicitly require account selection before continuing. The PR body now records the rebased `59 -> 60` epoch and current-head validation.
The hosted `test` failure is isolated to the previously observed graceful-shutdown timing case (`graceful Host shutdown stops and drains an active Turn before releasing ownership`): Runtime Host reported 1334 passed, 9 skipped, 1 failed, while `windows_recovery` passed. I rebuilt this exact head and reran that isolated test 5 times; all 5 passed. I attempted to rerun the failed GitHub job, but GitHub requires repository admin permission. Please rerun the failed job when convenient.

Follow-up on head `f5ba1f2dd`: the stacked Storage suite exposed one synchronous-admission regression in the cancellation helper. The helper's microtask deferral allowed an owner to close before an already-issued lane operation registered its lease, producing `invalid_lease`.
Fixed by preserving synchronous owner registration while retaining pre-admission cancellation, queued tombstone ordering, and post-admission real-outcome semantics. Synchronous executor rejection now releases the lane before propagating, so successors cannot hang.
Validation: Storage runtime-policy stores 54/54; serialized lane 4/4; the original synchronous drain regression; Storage build; Biome and diff-check. Two independent re-reviews returned GO.

Addressed both current-head review findings on `f8c069171`:
- legacy adoption now runs under a Runtime execution claim and propagates its AbortSignal through catalog/storage admission; Session stop aborts and drains preparation, with a final fence before every production AgentRun;
- Session catalog projections now carry required nullable `llmConnectionId`; Desktop and CLI non-model updates resend the fresh projection's exact ID + slug + model on every CAS retry, while legacy null fails before a write request;
- Runtime Host compatibility epoch advances 51 -> 52, with an explicit regression guard;
- the fix was cleanly replayed onto the maintainer-updated head, then passed two independent code reviews and two post-rebase freshness reviews.
Validation: Storage/Runtime/Runtime Host builds, CLI and Desktop-main typechecks, CLI driver 53/53, focused cancellation/adoption/protocol/Desktop tests, protocol epoch guard, Biome, and diff-check.

Rebased the reviewed stack onto current `origin/main` (`575487314`, including #3917) at head `26bf00bbe`.
The prior P1/P2 code findings remain closed: cancellable pre-AgentRun adoption, durable cancelled-Run convergence, and immutable identity on non-model configuration updates are unchanged. The six-commit range-diff is patch-equivalent after the final rebase; compatibility epoch remains 52 over main epoch 51.
The remaining CLI creation-funnel adoption is intentionally carried by the dependent #3882 head, which now passes the installed release-package controlled model-turn smoke. Scoped validation here: protocol epoch guard, Runtime/Storage/Runtime Host typechecks, and SessionManager 212/212.

Rebuilt and frozen at `04686a075` from current `main`.
The old six-commit stack has been replaced by one self-safe non-wire slice: new Session/AgentRun durable identity, bound ID+slug execution resolution, and delete/reuse protection across backend, OAuth reconciliation, auxiliary models, configuration updates, and Session-derived tool surfaces. Protocol/epoch, CLI/Desktop, ScheduledTask, legacy adoption, cancellation, and Storage admission are absent from the diff.
During the required two independent pre-push reviews, both reviewers found the same tool-surface slug fallback. The final head closes it and adds a real A-delete/same-slug-B composition regression. Both final reviews are GO with no P0-P3 findings.
The extracted follow-ups are #3926 (exact Session wire/surface recovery) and #3927 (ScheduledTask identity). The PR body and tracker #3852 now reflect the exact scope. CI is fresh on this head; requesting one final review on this frozen commit.

Addressed on `bad6984f8` by absorbing the exact recovery wire and surface slice into this PR. Legacy Sessions now project a nullable identity and show an actionable blocked state; recovery requires an explicit `connectionId + connectionSlug + model` target. Desktop and CLI/TUI carry that exact target across CAS retries, and same-slug replacements are never adopted implicitly. The Runtime Host compatibility epoch is 54 over current main's 53. Focused Core/Storage/Runtime/Host/CLI/Desktop validation passes; the full Host suite had one unchanged graceful-shutdown timing failure (1275 pass, 1 fail, 9 skip) that passed on repeated isolated reruns. Two independent frozen-head reviews found no P0-P3 issues.

Rebased the identity slice onto current `main` (`a956b1ae0`) and pushed exact head `b1ea437d3`. The three conflicts preserve main’s one-shot user-command lifecycle and safe-resume projection while retaining exact Connection identity. The compatibility ledger now advances `59 -> 60`; the PR description and current-head verification were refreshed. Current-head affected builds pass, focused suites are 652/652, the synthetic merge is clean, and scoped Biome/diff checks pass.

Addressed the current-head review on 16841bd50.
- P2-2 is fixed: a default target is resolved from the current Host catalog, accepted only when its connectionId + slug still match the bound Session, and then validated as the current default model. Cross-account defaults fail before credential resolution; oversized defaults fail without mutating the Session.
- P2-1 is confirmed but intentionally not claimed as fixed here. Epoch 51 does not project llmConnectionId or encode an exact recovery target, so a surface cannot safely distinguish a legacy Session or bind a replacement entity. #3864 keeps legacy configuration fail closed; #3926 owns the nullable identity projection, exact target wire, surface guard, and explicit recovery path.
Validation: Runtime Host 1260 passed / 0 failed / 9 skipped; build, Biome, and diff-check pass. Two independent final code reviews reported GO with no P0-P3 findings.

CI's Windows inventory gate identified one omitted generated row for the new UDS recovery test. Regenerated with `npm run windows:inventory:write`, verified `npm run windows:inventory` (68 declarations), and pushed `751b196f6`. The increment from `bad6984f8` changes only `docs/windows-test-inventory.md`; two independent incremental reviews returned GO with no P0-P3 findings.

This is a synthesis of the independent blind review by @Luna-Deep-Qronos at exact head `979a4f55a87b82a0e4fe345eefe31f37f5a0e734` (base `05c9c278`, 131 files +2083/-717). I verified the diff and the exact-head CI myself; the file:line findings below are from the reviewer's sealed report.
What I checked myself:
- Read `gh pr diff 3864` (feat: bind new sessions to connection identity, 131 files) and confirmed the immutable `llmConnectionId` persistence at Host creation and the `(connectionId, connectionSlug)` resolution for default and explicit targets.
- Checked exact-head CI: `test` run 33067076445 SUCCESS, `windows_recovery` run 33067076488 SUCCESS, OPEN/MERGEABLE/BLOCKED/REVIEW_REQUIRED.
Findings from Luna-Deep's review:
**Overall — CODE GO — 0 P0/P1/P2/P3.**
- New Sessions now persist the immutable `llmConnectionId` when the Host creates them; both default and explicit targets are resolved by `(connectionId, connectionSlug)`. Deletion, same-slug reuse, slug drift, disabled/provider-retired, credential-not-ready, and model-authorization cases all fail closed.
- Configuration updates, child Sessions, resume/branch, AgentRun, OAuth, scheduled-task, external import, and CLI/Desktop projections were all shown to propagate and retain the exact ID without a fallback to slug-only. The CLI generic `createSession` call that passes only `slug` was confirmed to be safe because the Runtime Host driver freezes the exact ID during context initialization.
Verification: Runtime Host/Storage focused 148/148 PASS, Runtime SessionManager 247/247 PASS, Desktop focused IPC/session 68/68 PASS, CLI Runtime Host run/session-driver 95/95 PASS; relevant builds and `git diff --check` PASS. Remaining CLI build and Desktop full-suite failures were isolated workspace/React environment issues and were not used as evidence. Report: `reports/pr3864-979a4f5-review.md`. No GitHub review/merge was performed by the reviewer.
What I did not judge: a full Desktop end-to-end session creation with concurrent connection switch was not executed beyond the inspected driver and projection paths — verification was by code inspection and the focused suites noted above.
Gate: no P0–P2, `test` and `windows_recovery` green, head `979a4f55` is ready to be approved and merged once a write holder approves.

Fixed the current-head ScheduledTask slug-reuse P1 in `00eb09e95`.
Slug-only `agent_run` tasks now fail closed in the single fire-admission path before execution identity allocation/binding, catalog slug lookup, Session creation, or AgentRun admission. This covers scheduled fires, `trigger_now`, persisted tasks, and recovery without pulling #3927’s Connection-ID persistence/wire work into this PR. Notification and `session_resume` paths remain unchanged.
The production Host regression creates and triggers a slug-only Agent task, then verifies a durable failed result with the immutable-identity diagnostic and no `sessionId` or `runId`. ScheduledTask focused coverage is 19/19, Runtime Host builds, and both final reviews reported 0 P0-P3.

Thanks for flagging this. `packages/runtime-host/src/operator/local-deployment-owner.ts` is not part of #3864’s diff or commit. The previous head was based before #3813, so the review observed the older `transferring` snapshot; current `main` already carries #3813’s `handoff` schema. I rebased the unchanged account-binding patch onto current `main` (`git range-diff` reports `=`), and the new head now includes that mainline state. No owner-schema migration change is needed in this PR.

Closed the remaining feature-gate items on head `844ecff82`:
- wrote the two legacy trade-offs explicitly: legacy Sessions perform one lossy current-slug adoption because no historical tombstone exists; legacy ScheduledTasks remain readable/non-effect editable but cannot execute until explicitly recreated with an ID;
- corrected the wire scope: explicit Session model targets and ScheduledTask execution templates add closed identity fields, requiring epoch 50 → 51;
- consolidated durable adoption into one idempotent pre-AgentRun Host authority shared by Runtime execution and explicit Skill admission;
- removed backend, auxiliary-model, and tool-surface slug fallback; all are bound read-only consumers, while legacy fake-backend errors remain unchanged.
Validation on the final diff: Runtime Host composition 45/45, Runtime pre-AgentRun ordering 3/3, typecheck, Biome, and diff-check. The PR body now records the exact limitations and scope.

Acknowledged. I am freezing head `26bf00bbe`; there will be no further rolling fixes or rebases preserving the current six-commit narrative.
I will rebuild from current `main` as independently reviewable vertical slices:
1. exact Session/AgentRun connection identity, including the closed Host model-target/projection wire and every CLI/Desktop create/configuration funnel needed to make the invariant self-contained;
2. legacy Session recovery as an explicit-account path, with no silent slug-based rebinding;
3. ScheduledTask connection identity as a separate execution slice.
The current lossy adoption/cancellation/Storage-admission chain will not be carried into the Session slice. I will rewrite the PR body to its true frozen scope, remove stale GO claims, run the required two independent reviews on the rebuilt head, and then request one final freshness review.
