[OT] Virus warnings, was: Re: [PATCH] FopServlet WAR
I apologize in advance for being off-topic!
I received four virus warnings upon sending my patch last night. They
all had the following style:
Subject: Norton AntiVirus detected a virus in a message you sent. The inf ected attachment was deleted.
Recipient of the infected attachment: <anonymize was="recipient's name"/>
Subject of the message: [PATCH] FopServlet WAR
One or more attachments were deleted
Attachment fopservlet.zip was Deleted for the following reasons:
Virus UNAUTHORIZED FILE was found.
Virus UNAUTHORIZED FILE was found.
That's pretty strange. I haven't sent a virus, have I?
Cheers,
Jeremias Märki

pdf bean
Posted by Ralph LaChance <Ra...@compuserve.com>.
Hello,
Somewhat off topic, but since this shapes up as the largest collective body
of pdf-ers outside of Adobe, I hope not to offend.
Anyone know of a pdf-rendering components (java) ?
Some time ago (2 years?) Adobe released a beta bean without support.
While it is buggy, it one is careful, it will do a good job of rendering basic
pdf content on a Component (or Canvas). The bean has not been updated
since then; it remains unsupported by Adobe, and -- several exchanges
with Adobe later -- I know of no way to obtain source short of decompilation.
Does any of you know of another candidate component ? I've cast a large
net to no success, but perhaps I missed something obvious.
We've even tried to imagine using Adobe's browser plugin, but we
can't quite get there.
Goal is simple: take a pdf file and render it in a Component or JComponent.
(btw: Starting from xml in the general case is not an option, so although we
use fop in production, it won't serve here.)
Thanks for any suggestions
'best

Hi, Jeremias
McAfee on my machine did not complain about your attachment.
Although in theory it's possible that Norton naively detected a dubious
binary sequence in that ZIP, it seems to me from the messages that maybe it
is set to reject ZIPs, or something along those lines. I am going off the
"UNAUTHORIZED FILE" message. That seems a bit different from saying, "I
found a possible virus". Some of the messages are confusing but that stems
from the fact that they are calling _every_ problem a virus.
Regards,
AHS
