Website errors

There are a number of errors with the nutch website (eg missing
http://nutch.apache.org/release/ )
Can I help at all? or is it related to the permission problem which
Chris mentioned when releasing 1.1?

(I have some spare time and want to work on Nutch if possible.)

Alex

Hey Alex,

Awesome! Would love to have your help. And yes you can contribute:

 1. for each website error, report a JIRA issue in Nutch JIRA: http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NUTCH
 2. set the fix version to 1.2 (that's the current working trunk version)
 3. the Nutch website is built using Apache forrest: http://forrest.apache.org. You can see the XDOCS that generate the site here: http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/nutch/trunk/src/site/src/documentation/content/xdocs/
 4. Grab a fresh checkout of Nutch 1.2 trunk: http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/nutch/trunk
 5. For each issue that you created in #1, modify the XDOCS or whatever files you need to inside of nutch/trunk/src/site/src/documentation to update them accordingly
 6. Test your updates using this guide: http://wiki.apache.org/nutch/Website_Update_HOWTO (you won't be able to svn commit anything and this guide was written for committers to do the final step, but you can still do the interim steps)
 7. If your updates work on #6 for each issue, then create a patch by CD'ing to the top level directory of your 1.2 trunk checkout, and running these commands

# svn status - this will tell you what files you have changed from SVN (what differs between your checkout and SVN)
# svn diff > NUTCH-xxx.<your last name>.<YYmmdd>.patch.txt - this will generate a txt patch file that you can attach to the JIRA issues you created in #1

  8. I and the rest of the committers can take a look at your patches, try and apply then and if they work out on a fresh trunk copy, I will take the action to commit them all and close out the issues. Once that website content is updated, I can svn up on people.apache.org and in a few days the Nutch website will be up2date.

Sound good? Thanks for the help. Any questions let me (or others on this list) know.

Cheers,
Chris
