   It looks like there's a quoting issue going on with the way that ccache is being invoked. I'll be honest: I haven't had much time to look into this, though it's still on my TODO list. Any help would be super appreciated, of course!
   
   In the mean time: Do you have something like `CC=ccache gcc` (along with `CXX` and `CXX11`) in your `.R/Makevars`? If so, could you try and install arrow without those and see if it works? That will at least confirm if the archlinux issue you're running into is the same as this other cccache issue that folks have had issues with
