Well, it was actually yours and Serge's but I wanted to drive it forward
a bit.

I don't know if/when we can effort a fully tested labeled-as-stable
spring release.
Although it is not too difficult to wire the needed class path and run
from IDE it would just be nice to have a unique platform for repeatable
smoke tests.
I find the whole James-running-with-Spring thing really exciting.
There are many things like processor/mailet configuration, or
handlerchain etc, that could be done so nicely with spring.
Maybe we could even try to run spring inside phoenix for this tasks. :-)
Having a Spring build would enable us to push the POJOification of James
forward. Goal: Make the ServiceManagerBridge superfluous!
Moving James to Spring means making James more container agnostic. This
would make it easier to run James in container foo.
The Spring build is also a big step to running James with OSGi...
No limits! :-)
> Anyone done some testing with James/Spring?
Running it directly from IDE in debugger is fun. :-)
> We also could include it in the Daily Builds only.
That would be a good first step.
> I am planning to get the ant build file done before end of year.
It would be a good chance to start a separate build-spring.xml.

very good idea! :-)
if you are thinking of "general availability" this would mean we would
actually release a james-server-spring distribution, which had to be
tested and voted in advance.
Anyone done some testing with James/Spring?
We also could include it in the Daily Builds only.
I am planning to get the ant build file done before end of year.
