   While I mostly agree with this (I do think deprecated for removal has a place), this seems somewhat different?  We're not removing because we no longer use it, but because we have to actively put in workarounds to keep it - well, bring it back.  By that point, in the very unlikely scenario someone needs this, surely _they_ can do the wrapping themselves?
