Arbitrary properties

Dear list members,

I thought I would be able to place arbitrary properties like

my.company.some.value = 33

into my.properties and retrieve them with JetspeedResource.getWhatever(),
but this does not seem to work. Did I misunderstand something here? Where
should I place properties that refer to my application and which I only want
to read once at startup, or whenever the file changes.
