[jira] [Created] (FLINK-19371) Support table transformations in SQL

Timo Walther created FLINK-19371:
------------------------------------

Summary: Support table transformations in SQL
                 Key: FLINK-19371
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FLINK-19371
             Project: Flink
          Issue Type: New Feature
          Components: Table SQL / API
            Reporter: Timo Walther

This is an umbrella issue for the general problem of having a `ProcessFunction`-like functionality in SQL. Ideally, such an operator would be flexible enough to take and transform entire tables, might be stateful, and can work with event-time.

Oracle provides the concept of Polymorphic Table Function (PTF) [[1]|https://oracle-base.com/articles/18c/polymorphic-table-functions-18c] [[2]|https://www.doag.org/formes/pubfiles/11270472/2019-SQL-Andrej_Pashchenko-Polymorphic_Table_Functions_in_18c_Einfuehrung_und_Beispiele-Praesentation.pdf]
