DO NOT REPLY [Bug 51548] New: Missing "handler" Entry in Excelant ANTLIB File and Documentation

https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=51548

             Bug #: 51548
Summary: Missing "handler" Entry in Excelant ANTLIB File and
                    Documentation
           Product: POI
           Version: 3.8-dev
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: minor
          Priority: P2
         Component: POI Overall
        AssignedTo: dev@poi.apache.org
        ReportedBy: b.w.bush@acm.org
    Classification: Unclassified

The ANTLIB file 'src/excelant/resources/org/apache/poi/ss/exelant/antlib.xml'
does not contain a typedef entry for
'org.apache.poi.ss.exelant.ExcelAntHandlerTask'.

Also, the Excelant documenation at
<http://poi.apache.org/spreadsheet/excelant.html> does not include an example
of using this task.

We don't normally re-assign tickets, I don't think it's the "Apache Bugzilla
way". (If memory serves, I think it's something to do with ensuring the list
always gets copied in on what's happening)

I normally just add a comment if I'm going to work on something later, so as to
avoid two people tackling the same thing.

Bugzilla assigns bugs to the poi-dev list. I don't know a way to
change this assignment to individuals.

If you want to track specific bugs you can include yourself in the cc
list and the search for OPEN and NEW bugs having your email in cc.
Something like this:

https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/buglist.cgi?emailcc1=1;list_id=68302;emailtype1=substring;emailassigned_to1=1;query_format=advanced;bug_status=NEW;bug_status=ASSIGNED;bug_status=REOPENED;email1=jsvede%40yahoo.com;product=POI

Will that work for you?

How do I assign this to myself? I looked in Bugzilla and didn't see anyway to
actually have it assigned to me. Am I missing some permissions or do we not
assign tickets to people individually?

Thanks,

Jon

It's your choice. If it were me I would do all three in the same issue.

Maybe the way to determine the answer is to ask this question:

Will you be resolving all three at once, or will one of the three issues take longer than the others?

Dave

Generally I'd say that if you can close it all in one go (or close to),
keep it as-is. However, if you fix one part but not another, and
especially if there may be more than one question outstanding about
different parts, then split.

Otherwise, I'd say follow the principle that as long as it's clear to
everyone what's going on, go for whatever takes the least work for you so
you can spend the longest coding! :)

Is there a policy here to work on a single issue per ticket? Some places I have
been like to seen a ticket be very specific to one issue. This ticket actually
defines two issues and implies a third.

Should I split this into multiple tickets? This once can be used for the fix to
the code and then two new ones for the docs and an example (it's not requested
but seems implied by the need for a docs update).

Jon

r1151847 addresses the code issue - missing definition. I also added more
Javadoc to the ExcelAntHandlerTask class. I need to work on an example and
updating the docs.
