GenericDataSource vs BasicDataSource

Does someone knows if its easy (dangerous ?) to change the DataSource from the GenericDataSource to the BasicDataSource ?
GenericDataSource seems to be unstable in extrem use of it so we want to migrate to the BasicDataSource...
