Max Threads from a slave

Hi All,

I would like to know the maximum number of thread from a slave Jmeter can support in a time duration of 60 seconds.

Please let me know both with respect  to linux and windows Jmeter systems.

For simplicity the system has dual core and 4GB RAM.
