CVS build: "messages should have been provided"

Hello,

I've downloaded the latest Jetspeed sources from the CVS repository, and
I'm trying to build them but I get this error after ant gets through the
"init:", "prepare_apis:", and "apis:" sections (the error happens in the
"compile:" section of output):

BUILD FAILED

/home/wbrameld/jakarta-jetspeed/build/build.xml:175: Compile failed,
messages should have been provided.

I'm on a RedHat 7 box with JDK 1.2.2 and Ant 1.3.  I'm running the build
with the build.sh script that comes with the source code.  Can anybody
tell me where I'm missing the boat?
