RE: A Hibernate/Turbine 2.3 security sample (Fulcrum wont compile)
Ok I've figured out the Log4J stuff, i had to add common-log and 4jlog jar
files to the Tomcat common/lib dir...
All the DEBUG stuff, is, well debug and appeared because the tomcat plugin
added VERBOSE=4.
I also had to recompile the Flux (CVS) jar because it gave me some "Not
Serializable" for the fulcrum DynamicGroup...
After that it runs without any errors; however there still won't appear any
list of users - groups' works though. It seems pretty strange that one
works, but not the other?
So I tried to recompile Fulcrum from CVS but it came up with a hell lot of
errors:

Hmm alright, why doesnt you use the 5.0 instead? I've seen that the plugin
for Eclipse only supports debugging with 4.x... So perhaps it would be a
good idea? But what about features?
Yeah but /runaway was just the context path where I misread it at first,
doesn't change anything.
It does include it, but I think that Logfactory4j is deprecated in newer
versions, and perhaps that is why.. some kind of mismatch in the classes you
provided, with the new commons-lib... maybe it should try to replace it.
I got it working anyway, it can log in, but I cant view any of the users. It
says "getUsers" not implemented. Where do I implement this?
Otherwise its looking good :)

Not sure. I used Tomcat 4.x. Here is what I notice in your log, though:
> [DEBUG] Digester - - match='web-app/welcome-file-list/welcome-file'
> [DEBUG] Digester - - bodyText='index.jsp'
May app doesn't have either of these files, so it is possible that you have
some other application running within Tomcat?
> Catalina:type=JspMonitor,WebModule=//localhost/runaway,J2EEApp
My app is called "runway", not "runaway", so it could be you have a naming
problem somewhere.

I think this class is actually in commons-logging. My app should include
commons-logging-1.0.3.jar.

I have but I am using Torque and standard TurbineSecurity service that is
in the 2.3 branch.
I haven't looked at fulcrum components much and haven't touched Hibernate
yet :)
The flux jar I packaged in the tdk-2.3_01 was updated to work with the
updated Torque 3.1 and Turbine 2.3 (called flux-2.3.jar) ... it did have
some trouble out of the box, but I updated it enough to get back up and
running.
http://kiasoft.com/~painter/tdk-2.3_01.tgz
http://kiasoft.com/~painter/tdk_2.3/lib/flux-2.3.jar
Not sure if that will help you or not, but maybe worth a try.

Ah well i tried to get it to work, but CVS is not working, all the help
files are completely wrong and as with the CVS version of Turbine im missing
the two files:
merlin-kernel-spi-3.2-dev
merlin-kernel-impl-3.2-dev
I'm getting a bit tired of this, could you possible provide these files for
me? Using the only available files on the merlin site (3.0b1) causes the
errors with getRoot() call.. Beside this problem I get at least 100 other
errors.
It cant resolve any org.apache.fulcrum.security dependencies in eclipse, and
when I try to use just "maven" it bumps out a lot of these:
D:\Program Files\Apache
Group\antelope\src\java\com\anite\antelope\modules\actio
ns\security\AddUser.java:51: cannot resolve symbol
symbol : class UserManager

100 errors
I can't see this "SecurityTool" you're talking about, it should be in the
package "zebra-antelope" right?

Hey, something must have gone wrong the first time i fetched the CVS tree,
because it is working now (tried a complete clean). However that code stump
still puzzled me, but at least it is working :)
Since I got you, do you have a solution for the extend dynamic user? I just
wanted to set up a one-to-one relation so I ididnt have to extend the table
too much.. But am I supposed to change a lot of places just for this one, I
mean in all of the hibernate manager/impl and so on?
Btw I keep getting more and more pleased with turbine (and now the antelope
implementation), really sah-weet :)
Thanks

Hi Martin...
This one was kinda a head scratcher.. took a while to search through and
find the code you are referering.. However.. The class, *I think*, you
are referring to is (at least in the email you referenced) moved into a
/security/api/ tree...
I just did a clean compile, including downloading from a fresh repository..
And I don't see this error.. Can you post back the compile errors you are
getting, and double check you are using the latest from CVS..
Make sure to ignore anything in jakarta-turbine-fulcrum/src. That is all
old, everything should be in there own project per component sub directory.

Posted by Martin Wendel <co...@it.dk>.
Ok i've been searching through the fulcrum service trying to resolve all the
errors, besides the fact that there are so many, it strikes me that
something is odd.
One of the many errors is this one:
if (aclFactoryService != null)
{
FIXME: manager.release(aclFactoryService);
}
aclFactoryService = null;
where I've typed FIXME on the line that fails.
I did a little search, and only one answer came up - a CVS commit from you
Eric at Date: Tue, 26 Aug 2003 00:39:55 +0000
http://www.mail-archive.com/turbine-dev@jakarta.apache.org/msg12868.html
and here you'll see that the patch in the bottom says:
public void dispose()
{
- /*
- if (aclFactoryService != null)
- {
- manager.release(aclFactoryService);
- }
- aclFactoryService = null;
- */
+
manager.release(userManager);
manager.release(roleManager);
manager.release(groupManager);
I can't help wondering if there is something wrong with the current CVS
version. True or false?

Do you know why Eric says we moved away from Flux?
Anyway interesting enough I just checked my log file and found:
2004-06-23 19:07:06,312 [http-8080-Processor25] ERROR
org.apache.turbine.services.velocity.TurbineVelocityService - Class
org.apache.turbine.flux.tools.FluxTool.getUsers threw Exception
org.apache.turbine.util.security.DataBackendException: Not implemented
at
org.apache.fulcrum.security.adapter.turbine.SecurityServiceAdapter.getUsers(
SecurityServiceAdapter.java:891)
at
org.apache.turbine.services.security.TurbineSecurity.getUsers(TurbineSecurit
y.java:337)
at
org.apache.turbine.flux.tools.FluxTool.getUsers(FluxTool.java:241)
... But the file is full of code, and getUsers is in fact implemented... So
why does it come up with this?
Alright I use Hibernate tough, so I probably cant use the Criteria like
that. Anyway you pretty much implement all your needed user management into
the FluxTool?

I still use much of the flux tool code in most of my apps, but I have
extended it a great deal.
the $flux.Users is really just calling the
public User[] getUsers()
method on the flux tool.
You should be able to replicate this behavior in any tool you want as the
method is pretty short.
/**
* Select all users sorted by last name
*
*@return The activeUsers value
*@exception Exception Description of the Exception
*/
public User[] getSortedUsers() throws Exception {
Criteria criteria = new Criteria();
criteria.addAscendingOrderByColumn(TurbineUserPeer.LAST_NAME);
return TurbineSecurity.getUsers(criteria);
}
It is really just a call on the TurbineSecurity service.

I got a simple question regarding the Flux tool...
In the FluxUserList there is a line that says:
#foreach ($user in $flux.Users)
And in FluxGroupList
#foreach ($group in $flux.Groups)
... But WHERE are those variables defined? I see them nowhere in the Flux
component... The example Lester Ward provided, the Users doesn't work, but
Group seems to do...
But still, I can find no Users and no Groups in the Flux component (same VM
used in the official TDK, where it looks like they're both working..??)

Maven.. im not sure what you mean with multiproject... I got the Fulcrum
