Hello Shivansh,

Welcome to Apache. You have entered the most prolific open source organization in the world. There are literally hundreds of projects to choose from:

https://projects.apache.org

That cover the breadth of computing, from databases, programming languages, APIs, tools, networking, devops, frameworks, security, web servers / frameworks, and more, using a variety of programming languages from C, Java, Python, Scala, Ruby, C#, you name it.

Because of this amazing variety, it would be impossible for someone to recommend projects in which to start. It depends on your skills and interests.

What I can recommend, is to look at the list of projects, go to their websites, join their mailing lists, and narrow down to a list of possibles.

Once you have that much smaller list, do some comparison shopping. Download the source for a project, build, and run the tests... take it for a test drive.

In addition to learning what you like and not like about a project, you’ll be developing some basic expertise that will be necessary if/when you decide to join one.

More advice, be humble and patient. It took many months and years for the people you’ll meet on a particular project to develop that expertise. Take the long view. Start small. Maybe you can help clean up the installation documentation that you were using as you did your research. Perhaps you can help them test. Eventually, if your aptitude agrees, will be able to start applying patches to the code, working your way into feature development, and you’ll be on your way.

Best of luck.
