Perhaps a SQLLine problem?!
Trying with Tephra, and simply doing a select from X, then waiting for 60s (that's my transaction timeout), then doing another select, I get
{{org.apache.tephra.TransactionNotInProgressException: canCommit() is called for transaction 1546197028547000000 that is not in progress (it is known to be invalid)}}.
That means that SQLLine *did have* a transaction open... Even with autocommit off.
If it's just a SQLLine problem I can close this, although it's still unexpected.
