I am sorry that I did not reply sooner.  I am not a regular reader of the
ECS list and just forgot this.  However this has come back to haunt me ...

I have prepared a test case.  This seems to act differently when I use
Select.toString() than when I use Select.output(OutputStream).

Anyway, if you could take a look at this I would appreciate it greatly, and
if you could respond directly to me, I promise prompt replies.
