Fw: Copyright's for incoming projects

Saw this on the ws.apache.org list. Thought it might be useful if and when

WSDL4J is merges with Woden.

Hi Sanjiva, all,

Had a look around after seeing the recent mails and had a look at the svn
location and found some implementation there. Didn't see any svn commit nor
discussions either. Is the commits get posted to axis-cvs@ws.apache.org ???.
I have already gone through some of the work that is to be done. I didn't
know that there has been commits. I am very much willing put some time into
this and contribute.

+1 to discussions on this list.

>Where? Is there another list??

Nope. As John said in his post things have been relatively quiet as the
project is only going to start to pick-up steam now.

>I'm confused .. is Woden not one and the same as the "WSDL 2.0
>validating parser" you referred to above?

Yes and no. In the short term Woden will be a WSDL 2.0 validating parser.
Woden's long term goal is to be a generic WSDL parser that will parse both
WSDL 1.1 and WSDL 2.0.

>Are commit messages going somewhere else? If not IIRC I haven't received
>any commit messages.

You're right. The commit messages are not coming though. The messages are
being sent to a list woden-cvs which was never setup. Dims has volunteered
to help out with this so I'll get this fixed with his help.

Chathura Herath, who's doing the WOM stuff in Axis2, was listed as a
co-committer for Woden. However, AFAIK he hasn't had any contact with

Re: Fw: Copyright's for incoming projects

Hi Sanjiva,

Development had already started on the WSDL 2.0 validating parser but the
parser was not yet well developed. The parser was donated and development
is now continuing at Apache with the Woden project.

Woden is currently being developed using the public SVN repository. I
agree that it doesn't make sense to develop in a closed or private setting
and that is certainly not the intention of the few of us working on Woden.
If it seems that way it's probably because so far John Kaputin has made
the bulk of the code contribution. I'd also like to see more discussion on
this list and also agree that input from interested groups (such as Axis,
Eclipse, and the W3C) will be beneficial at this early stage of
development. Arthur Ryman is acting as the W3C WSDL 2.0 working group
representative and I am acting as the Eclipse WTP representative to this
project. I know John has been in touch with someone from Axis but can you
act as a representative for Axis and bring Axis related concerns to the
attention of this list? If not, is there someone else you can recommend to
fill this role?

Thanks,

Lawrence

So if this project was approved for incubation *without* code that's,
um, a bit unusual .. I guess I missed that! (Look at the incubation
guidelines - the first point is "must have code".) Dims, am I missing
something??

Now given that situation, if you're writing the code *now*, why does it
make sense to write it closed in a private setting? I'd much rather
discuss design and issues before all the code is written rather than the
other way around. That is, bring the whole thing to this list now rather
than later.

Re: Fw: Copyright's for incoming projects

Sanjiva,

Development has started on the WSDL 2.0 validating parser. As detailed in
the proposal, this parser will support both DOM and StAX which will allow
both Axis and the Eclipse Web Tools Platform project to use the parser. As
it's been explained to me, the Woden model will be wrapped in the Axis WOM
for use in Axis.

WRT the incoming code, are you referring to WSDL4J? If so, again as was
detailed in the proposal, WSDL 1.1 processing is a longer term goal of the
Woden project. The initial goal is to create a WSDL 2.0 validating parser.
