[Issue 126769] New: Copy / Paste out of order

https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=126769

          Issue ID: 126769
        Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: Copy / Paste out of order
           Product: Calc
           Version: 4.1.2
          Hardware: PC
                OS: Windows 10
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: Blocker
          Priority: P5 (lowest)
         Component: editing
          Assignee: issues@openoffice.apache.org
          Reporter: aronssonmalte@gmail.com

When I copy text in Calc it works fine to paste it to any other application,
for instance, to Notes.

But if I copy text from Notes, this doesn't work anyomore. Instead the last
copied text done before this actual copying will be pasted. Feels like this is
a caché thing?

The bug won't be solved by deleting and reinstalling OO. Neither it will be
solved by restarting the computer.

So how do I solve this bug? Anyone? Or is there a way to get around it, a way
to force cleaning of the caché after ctrl+v is clicked?

This is a MAJOR issue with UTMOST URGENCY since this feature (click/paste) is a
major utility, that must work at ALL TIMES.

That is why I placed this report / question as a BLOCKER.

Looking forward to any help as early as ever possible, as I am stuck here and
am unabled to do my work that MUST be finished by January 4, 2016.

All the best

M.A.

At last:
I think I found the solution:
I checked updates of the software that had been added to the computer
automatically -
and found a Java update.
I uninstalled that update, (but it looks like I uninstalled not only the update
but the whole softeware) :-).

After this, it seems the copy/past functins fine again.

Please keep this issue open for a while ... in case the bug will come back

will also erase the caché after each copy/paste operation."

You have now provided enough information for others to investigate. Please
allow time for that. It is unfortunate that you are under time pressure.
Volunteers have many priorities to juggle and it is necessary to rely on the
generosity of strangers [;<).

Unfortunately, this is not a real-time communication mechanism.

PS: Uninstalling and reinstalling AOO is rarely a solution to anything.
Interdependency problems and also corrupted user profiles (not impacted by
uninstallation) are not remedied in this manner.

I have removed the Blocker indication. It is premature to make that claim.

I have noticed such behavior on Windows 8.1/10 where it had nothing to do with
Apache OpenOffice. The usual workaround is to do the copy over until it takes.

When one of these Pastes fails, see if you can copy into something else, such
as an open NotePad, WordPad or OneNote document. Do this to verify that the
copy from Notes actually changed the Windows clipboard.

What application are you speaking of as "Notes?" Please be more specific.

It is a bit disturbing that uninstall of a different piece of software allows
improved success at copy-paste between files of two other programs. It affirms
that the Windows clip-board may have some subtleties that are not being dealt
with properly. That there may be a privacy-preservation issue is a concern.

Can you determine exactly what updated Java version was installed on your
machine? Was it a 32-bit or 64-bit Java Runtime Environment (JRE)?

If this problem recurs, it would be useful to try several things:

 1. Find a small simple case of an OpenOffice Calc sheet and a Notepad document
that repeatedly demonstrates the issue.

 2. See if the Notepad document has been saved, see if having it be in UTF-8
instead of the default format on Windows makes a difference.

 3. See if the you can return to the Notepad document (where the copy selection
should remain), copy again, and then paste successfully into the Calc document.
 Try maybe three times, tops.

 4. See if you can use Microsoft Wordpad or even an OpenOffice Writer document
to copy from instead.

These are all for demonstration of repeatability and also identifying a
possible work-around until something deeper can be figured out.

Maybe not. With some simple tests using Apache OpenOffice 4.1.2 Calc and
Windows 10 Notepad, I cannot cause this problem.

It would be helpful to know

 (1) What was the selection copied from Calc. I.e., a single cell, what was in
it, what was the type of the cell (i.e., format), and what was the value that
copied to the clipboard?

 (2) What was text in Notepad that you then copied to the clipboard and which
did not show up when pasted into the open Calc sheet. Was this into a single
cell or a selection of cells?

 - Dennis

PS: Pasting does not clear the clipboard, copying something new tends to
replace what is on the clipboard. The clipboard has a kind of cache.

PPS: If you get this to reproduce again, another test is

 5. After pasting from Calc, close Calc and reopen it. See if a copy back from
Notepad then works correctly. Also, on closing Calc do you get a dialog about
there being material left on the clipboard?

To be clear, "When one of these Pastes fails, see if you can IMMEDIATELY PASTE
into something else, such as an open NotePad, WordPad or OneNote document."

The idea is to see if you can confirm that the copy from Notes is actually on
the clip-board or whether the operation failed to replace the previous
clip-board content.

Sorry for not being more specific.

When I wrote Notes, I meant NotePad (it's atranslation mistake by me)
I meant the Notes that comes with MS

When I copy text 1 from Calc and paste into NotePad it works fine
When I copy text 2 from NotePad and paste into Calc, the text 1 will come up
instead of the text 2.
The copy/paste function doesn't erase text 1 after it has been copied and
pasted (as it should)

The same problem appears if I copy text from a page in Chrome into Calc. It
remember the very first copy but doesn't erase it in caché after it has been
pasted.

No matter how many times I click Ctrl+V the old text comes up.

But if instead copy text from Chrome into NotePad, it will always work perfect.

And if I copy and paste from one column into an other column, it works, it
will also erase the caché after each copy/paste operation.
