I'd hope so too. Generally, I hope at least the committer to which
the issue is assigned is paying attention as these emails or just for
convenience and don't perform any official function.

It doesn't look like GERONIMO-2248 is assigned to anyone, so maybe
you want to take the lead on it.

If the author of the patch also agrees that it isn't suitable in it's
current form, maybe we can figure out some way to take it out of the
RTC list if there isn't one already -- never tried. We may have to
redo the JIRA workflow or something.

[Discuss] How do we assess new function. (was Re: Patches in RTC (Geronimo - 2006-08-10))

Posted by Matt Hogstrom <ma...@hogstrom.org>.
I think that partially will be based on whether the current patch needs to be reworked or the
community does not want to incorporate the idea. I think the points you brought up are valid and
that the current patch needs to be reworked to address the issues.

I'll add my comments to the JIRA. One thing we should probably clarify is how much should the
person adding the patch be required to do. I think incrementally the patch does bring better
information to the table and would be a net benefit. Your suggestions are an improvement over what
is there.

In a similar vein you proposed a quartz plugin and wanted to use GBeans for the config (I don't
remember the exact discussion) and others suggested a database would be better. In the end you
chose to not take other people's ideas into your proposed design (which was fine). I think your
comment was if others wanted to augment the code they were free to.

I see some similarity here in that this isn't what everyone would want but its better than what we
had so I think the discussion is are you or others willing to work on your proposed enhancements.
If yes then we rework the patch and start again. If not, we need to decide if this is better than
we were and others can improve it later.

I'd say that if this is better and no one wants to do the incremental work that we accept this.

Thoughts?

Re: Patches in RTC (Geronimo - 2006-08-10)

Posted by Aaron Mulder <am...@alumni.princeton.edu>.
I've added a comment to GERONIMO-2248 indicating that I don't agree
with the patch as proposed. Now what? Assuming I'm not overruled,
does this issue stay on this list forever? Is there some way to "end
RTC" if the concensus is that the issue should not proceed?

Also, I'm trusting people to read the comments on the issue -- there's
no way to see from this message whether someone has objected to a
patch, you only see the positive votes.

Thanks,
     Aaron
