error making static version of svn

hi

i am running mandrake 9.0;
when i try to set up a static version of svn i get this errors when i run
make:

libtool: link: warning: complete static linking is impossible in this
configuration
libtool: link: warning: `/usr/lib/libgdbm.la' seems to be moved
libtool: link: warning: `/usr/lib/libgdbm.la' seems to be moved
libtool: link: warning: library `/usr/lib/libgdbm.la' was moved.

what does this means ?

the files are in the path /usr/lib/...

what i have to do, that the making will have success?

At the very least you need to do the following

Do you have a static libc.a installed on the build machine? What
about all those other libraries?

hi

the output of ldd is:

$ ldd ./svn
./svn: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.3' not found (required by ./svn)
        libgdbm.so.2 => /usr/lib/libgdbm.so.2 (0x40018000)
        libexpat.so.0 => /usr/lib/libexpat.so.0 (0x4001f000)
        libm.so.6 => /lib/libm.so.6 (0x40044000)
        libcrypt.so.1 => /lib/libcrypt.so.1 (0x40067000)
        libnsl.so.1 => /lib/libnsl.so.1 (0x40094000)
        libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x400a8000)
        libz.so.1 => /lib/libz.so.1 (0x400ab000)
        libpthread.so.0 => /lib/libpthread.so.0 (0x400ba000)
        libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x400d0000)
        /lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x40000000)

this means is uses this shared lib.

but this points to the problem i posted @ start.

when i try to build a static version i get the error i posted.

what to do, that i get a static version?

It looks like your binary is still using a shared libc, and that the
machines have different libcs installed. If you run

$ ldd /path/to/binary

you will see a list of all the shared libraries used by the binary.
To create a completely static binary you need to make sure that static
versions of all those libraries are available when you link it.

Re: error making static version of svn

hi

as far as i can see is there no static linked version build.

i run ./configure --enable-all-static

then make and this warning came up.

when i now try to run the svn binary from <svn>/subversion/cmdline/

on another maschine i get:

./svn: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.3' not found (required by ./svn)

i this now a problem, because there is no static version of svn or is this
an error because the lib
is needed even when it is a static?

That's not an error, it's only a warning. The warning may explain
some subsequent error.

The .la files are libtool text files, you can examine them with a text
editor. Libtool expected the libgdbm.la to be installed in some
directory other than /usr/lib.

Show us the error message :)
