Invalid chmod options in solaris build

It seems that while installing the manual under Solaris chmod gets passed some
invalid arguments. I will leave the source structure in tact on my server in
case there is some file or whatever I need to attach. Sorry in advance for not
knowing what to stick on here.

Configured with: --prefix=/usr/local/apache
make, sudo make install. This is a Solaris 7 computer.

GNU Make version 3.78.1, by Richard Stallman and Roland McGrath.
Built for sparc-sun-solaris2.7

I cannot seem to get a version from chmod, however it seems to be Solaris chmod,
not UCB.
CHS:/home/faculty/kkane/apache_1.3.27% which chmod
/usr/bin/chmod
