Sharing here in case anyone is trying to use this patch in practice. If invoking gradle from the command line, it's possible to pass the {{-DluceneSnapshot}} system property flag directly. For invoking gradle indirectly (e.g., via an IDE), you can specify this flag in the {{grandle.properties}} file, e.g.:

# Uncomment below if developing against a local lucene snapshot
systemProp.luceneSnapshot
{code}
