[users@httpd] access_log anomalies

I am running Apache 2.0.40 on Linux kernel 2.4.20 and am having trouble with
logging and time zones. The server appears to operate fine yet the logs
entries appear to switch time zones randomly. The switch occurs between my
local time zone (-0800 or -0700 depending on DST) and UTC (+0000). I do not
experience this problem with other logs (e.g. Sendmail).

I can find no direct, cause-and-effect correlation between client activity
and this problem. I can not reliably recreate it, but I would estimate it
occurs about every one in 20 log entries although it appears very random.

I have attached some examples below. I suspect this is something simple,
although if Google is any indication, it is also very rare. Any help would
be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

This is an example of the same host, hitting the same machine, during the
same second. Note the time zone changes back and forth.

This is an example of three hits, all with the incorrect (UTC) timezone.
Note that it also appears to have ordering problems (53, 50, 52 seconds).

This is another example of the time zone changing several times during the
client exchange. Note this occurs for both result codes 200 and 304.

Although I'm not sure, I seem to recall a bug similar to this being fixed
a while ago. 2.0.40 is over a year old and many bugs have been fixed
since then. Try a more recent version.

Joshua.
