Endnotes strongly would profit from a two-column layout, which regularly saves
much space and improves readability. To my observation the space can be much
larger and lots of other uncontrolled bahaviour takes place, if this more
professional-style formatting is used. Definitely appears as a bug. Would be
highly desirable to be fixed.
