apache 2.x?
Apologies if this is already a much debated/documented question but new to
the list and the archives appear to have vanished.
Are there plans afoot to port rivet to apache 2.x?
If yes, then any progress? I took a quick look at the code and it looks
like a fairly simple exercise to me - I'm willing to volunteer.
If no, then why not? Should I be looking at mod_tcl or websh instead?
(I've not looked at either yet)
Cheers,
Olly

Have you looked in CVS? I know they have done work on it, because I
read the mailing list! Let me know if you don't find it, and I will
hunt it down myself.

Exactly! This is where I want to go long term, with the big condition
that it can't impact performance much.

I'm failing big time to find a version of apreq ported to 2.0
Any clues where I should be looking?

I've looked at it now and it's kinda cute.
Needs some more features to make it possible, but I'm beginning to think
now along the lines of being able to configure rivet as a mod_tcl plugin.
It makes sense to attempt some form of convergence/sharing of code.
Thoughts?

Indeed, they have - I'm sorry about that:-( They should be back up
shortly on a new server... The Apache Software Foundation has some
problems with this in general.

Nothing concrete.

I think it should be - by using the TclWeb* stuff, it should infact be
possible to port it to a variety of systems. Since apache_request*
has already been ported, that should also make things much easier.
Your help would be more than welcome, and very much appreciated!
> If no, then why not?
I haven't worked on it because I decided that it was worth my while to
concentrate on other things - like making a release happen:-) I think
people are going to take some time to adopt 2.0... there are issues
with a lot of things when you bring threads into the equation. For
instance, you can no longer have scripts that start from a particular
[pwd], because that might change out from under your feet! You also
need to look carefully at Tcl extensions that you might include.

Depends on what you want to do. Both of them are fine systems, but
oriented towards different goals - Websh is more of a complete
environment, with lots of stuff included, but it's big, and not the
fastest thing out there. mod_tcl is basically the Apache API, exposed
in Tcl.
Anyway, does that help? Please let us know if you have other
questions.
