   I'm leaning towards -1, as this removes the microsecond timing output which has been crucial in determining failures in the past. Unless this is an optional mode that can be turned on and off.
   
   Think of people using the logging infrastructure via syslogd to send this data to a remote machine (which is common in large, industrial-grade installations).
