Hi,
I've tracked this down: if you've got elements like this:
<fo:table-column column-number="1" />,
without column-width attribute, fop goes into this loop.
If you omit the table-column element altogether,
you get a warning that fop needs a table-width (and I think
fop skips the table).
Unfortunately, the above is what is generated by
Norman Walsh's docbook stylesheets.
Oh well, we can live without tables for a while.
