[ANN] Apache Tomcat Native 2.0.16 released

The Apache Tomcat team announces the immediate availability of Apache
Tomcat Native 2.0.16 stable.

The key features of this release are:

- Windows binaries built with OpenSSL 3.5.8.

- Various robustness improvements, mostly around error handling. Note
that due to these additional checks, *Tomcat versions released before
this version of Tomcat Native will not be able to use OpenSSL based
JSSE TLS support with this release*.

- Add support for the extended range of options available in OpenSSL
   3.0.x onwards.

The 2.0.x branch does not support the APR/native connector. Tomcat 9
users currently using the APR/Native connector are encouraged to switch
to the NIO connector and, if OpenSSL support is required, switch to
Tomcat Native 2.0.x.

Please refer to the change log for the complete list of changes:
http://tomcat.apache.org/native-doc/miscellaneous/changelog.html

Downloads:
http://tomcat.apache.org/download-native.cgi

The Apache Tomcat Native Library 2.0.x provides an API for using OpenSSL
for SSL networking with Apache Tomcat's NIO and NIO2 connectors.

So do I understand correctly that it will work with the upcoming Tomcat 9.0.122 release?

It is right there in the second bullet of the key features in the
release announcement:

"Note that due to these additional checks, *Tomcat versions released
before this version of Tomcat Native will not be able to use OpenSSL
based JSSE TLS support with this release*."

The fix (passing a direct ByteBuffer rather than a non-direct one) will
be in the September releases. The current plan is that they will be
available early next week.

Hi,

I tried to update Tomcat Native to version 2.0.16 on a Red Hat 9 compatible system. Unfortunately it doesn not work and reports this error:

WARNING: The Apache Tomcat Native library failed to load. The error reported was ['int org.apache.tomcat.jni.Library.size(int)']

Version 2.0.15 loads like this:

INFO: Loaded Apache Tomcat Native library [2.0.15] using APR version [1.7.0].

I see that APR is recommended version 1.7.6 now but required is still 1.7.0.

Thanks for any help.
Simon
