Summary: If backend provides a broken HTTP response line, the
response is returned as HTTP body
Product: Apache httpd-2
Version: 2.2.4
Platform: Other
URL: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apache2/+bug/1
37233
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: mod_proxy
AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
ReportedBy: soren@ubuntu.com
A broken CherryPy backend (returning "HTTP/1.1 Date: blahblah" as the first
line) revealed a bug in the mod_proxy_http code. If the HTTP response line is
malformed, mod_proxy_http acts as if ProxyBadHeader was set to StartBody, i.e.
it returns the entire backend response as the body of the proxy's response.

That's a really good point. I suppose Apache is actually doing what it's
supposed to, so I'm closing this bug.

------- Additional Comments From serai@lans-tv.com 2007-09-11 23:51 -------
According to mod_proxy_http.c line 1268 and 1404 (trunk r574684), if the first
line of a response is not HTTP/#.# ### (# is a digit) ( for regex: "^HTTP/
\d\.\d \d\d\d"), mod_proxy_http handles the response as HTTP/0.9.
RFC1495 http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1945.txt says:
If a client sends an HTTP/1.0 Full-Request and
receives a response that does not begin with a Status-Line, it should
assume that the response is a Simple-Response and parse it
accordingly.
