I don't see why there would be much difference in performance between the 
changes I made and your approach. If there is a perforance problem can you 
supply statistics to back this up.

I agree an isValid() method on ValidatorResult would probably be useful - can 
you open a new bug ticket for this please (since its a new/different request 
and I've already implemented a fix for the original issue).
