What happens when strings fills up? (was RE: svnadmin hotcopy pro blem with strings > 2G)

Hi all,

I'm wondering... what happens when the strings file really fills to the
largest supported size on some platform?

I'm not really concerned about my own repo, since strings is just above
100M. But I'm wondering whether this has been considered by the developers.

Thanks,
Jan Evert

The Berkeley DB supports extremely large database files:

	http://www.sleepycat.com/docs/ref/am_misc/dbsizes.html

especially when largefile support is available. Most repositories should never
get to that size. FWIW, a mirror of the entire Perl repository of changes since
5.004 comes to about 614MB, with the strings file alone being 514MB. Anyone who
needs to have a database file greater than 2GB can use a largefile supported BDB
for the maximum size.
