Jmeter for Non web based application

Can Jmeter be used for perfromance testing of transaction server which is
connected to a POS terminal.PoS terminal transactions are simulated through
a simulator and posted to the transaction server. Can the performance of
this transaction server be monitored through Jmeter?

There is no other documentation on the TCP Sampler, though you may
find some useful information if you search the mailing list archives.
And of course you can look at the source.

There is plenty of information on how to set up a JMeter test plan in
the JMeter documentation.

I suggest you experiment with some simple test plans (e.g. using
HTTP), and (re-)read the documentation.

There is already a TCP sampler, which you may be able to use:

Thanks for the reply. Can you provide some more details / links on writing
samplers. The Protocol used is TCP/IP

JMeter can test any server for which it has a suitable sampler.
You can also write your own sampler.

Without knowing what protocol the POS terminals use, it's rather
difficult to say which applies.
