Recommendations for JDO-Framework

Hi everybody,

for a new JSF/MyFaces-Project I need to use JDO for my ORM. Has
anybody of you guys already made experiences with several opensource
JDO-Frameworks and MyFaces?

Any commendations or warnings on which framework I should use or better not use?

To customize, we just have implement the IconProvider interface. It works.

Do u know how to programmatically create output component .

When I click the node of a tree(not tree2), I need to display a output text box
with some stringvalue.
I am dynamically able to create a output text in the valuechanged method. How
should I display it.
If I use panelgrid, I am getting error.
Please, let me know where I going wrong.
Heres my code.
 public void valueChanged(TreeSelectionEvent event){
        System.out.println("There is a new event");

            TreePath p = event.getNewSelectionPath();
                 if (p != null)
                 {
                         MyLeadTreeNode adpNode =
(MyLeadTreeNode)p.getLastPathComponent();
                         System.out.println("inside valuechanged"+ adpNode);
                         System.out.println("checking"+
adpNode.getNodeDescription());
                         this.descOutputText=adpNode.getNodeDescription();
                         System.out.println("Title"+descOutputText);
                 //        a =(String)descOutputText.getValue();
                    // a=descOutputText;
                 //setdescOutputText(a);
                 Application application =
FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getApplication();
                 HtmlOutputText output =
(HtmlOutputText)application.createComponent(HtmlOutputText.COMPONENT_TYPE);
                 List children = panel.getChildren();
                 children.clear();
                         output.setValue(descOutputText);
                         System.out.println("getvalue is :" +output.getValue());
                          children.add(output);
                         System.out.println("executed");

        }

     public void setPanel(HtmlPanelGrid panel)
    {
            this.panel =panel;

    }
    public HtmlPanelGrid getPanel()
    {
            return panel;
    }
}

Thanks,
Suba.

IMO this is easier to do with tree2. There are plenty of examples to
show the way if you use this component. I'm not very amiliar with the
original tree so I can't help much. I ran into a lot of problems
configuring tree which is why I started the tree2.

Customize icons in Myfaces tree

Posted by sp...@indiana.edu.
Hi,

  I am looking to customize icons in Myfaces tree. I believe we can use
IconProvider in the tree for this task. How do we use the
IconTagProvider to do this. Anyhelp is greatly appreciated.

Thankyou,
Suba.

I have not looked to deep into seam yet, but having to use data requests
to have the conversation scope to work, does not seem to be
really mandatory, and the docs do not indicate that.
You get opensessioninview and transactional handling optionally if you
need it, but the usage of data access for gaining a conversation
scope does not seem mandatory to me and does not make sense.

Not really necessary, you can keep the app states within the
conversation sort of as model values and have them injected and
outjected as far as I understood the papers.
But this is sort of a wild guess since I have not had time to look
deeper into seam than reading the paper and trying the examples.

Well savestate sort of is a conversation of its own, but you are right,
it could make
sense in this case, but also you could push the data into another
conversation with a longer scope.

But have in mind, seam seems to be able to cover the double opened
window problem according to the docs, savestate definitely is not.
(and neither is my scope component at the current time which I nailed
recently into the sandbox)

Sure, as Werner wrote the "conversation" state handles all we need - at
least i hope so, I am close before to jump to seam.
But - as far as i understand - even seam only works successfully if you
design your beans to always request database-data
using the entitymanager.
So the main advantage seam provides is to handle the
"(database)session-per-application-transaction"
in a sophisticated way.

Its still save, and I would say necesssary to use e.g. saveState when
you have to pass application-states (NOT pojo instances)
from one http-request to another. I mean values sort of "current", e.g
current order-number, current item-id, ...

Those values often have to live after a conversation ended, but putting
them in session scope is still too broad.

Same impression here, the scoping is done via ejb session beans, seam
introduces a new scope (conversation)
the usage of savestate does not make any sense once you have moved to seam
the conversation scope does everything for you in that regards, as far as
I understood the docs.

Yes - but the beans themselves are maintained fully on the server, as
far as I understood it - using request beans with saveState instances
and preserveDataModel doesn't make much sense with Seam, as far as I
saw through the Seam docu..

Huh?
I think this is not true. At least the seam examples use client side jsf
session saving.
Or did you mean something else?

I am working with Hibernate.

the integration is somewhat awkward, expect a lot of exceptions
popping up especially if you use serializing a lot.

Take a look at "Seam" from JBoss - that seems to solve a lot of
problems in this direction, only if you do server side sessions,
though.

Re: Recommendations for JDO-Framework

Have you ever tried the stand-alone-mode with HSQLDB and JPOX? I'm
currently trying to create an AJAX-JSF-Component which comes with an
embedded mini-database to provide user-files like java-scripts from
the embedded database instead of the filesystem: The database-files
and the database itself are stored in the JAR-File which will be
unpacked if needed. Using JDBC it works great - I have all the
advantages of a Database and the users who use my component don't need
to set up a database, execute sql-statements, configurate mapping
files etc. They just copy the JAR in the lib-folder and my programm is
doing the rest with its own mini-database.

Nevertheless it's not working when I use stand-alone-mode of HSQLDB
and jpox (which is also mentioned at the jpox-site
http://www.jpox.org/docs/1_1/rdbms.html)

Have you also discovered similar problems? Or do you know whether it
is possible to (re)store a memory-resident-database from a
hsql-database-file?

I recently started using JPOX with a memory resident HSQLDB and had no
problems whatsoever. It actually made life quite easy.

Also they're going to be the JDO 2.0 RI
