[Fwd: [PMC:Vote] Pruning Avalon CVS]

I propose that we prune Avalon CVS repository (currently 90MB) to what
we have now as a baseline. In my test run on a copy of that repository
I was able to cut it down to only 1.44MB--preserving the full history
of what is currently being used.

The way it would be done is first archiving the CVS repository, and
placing it in a "graveyard" directory in Avalon web space. The URL
would be:

http://avalon.apache.org/graveyard/

During the pruning process, I would ask that no commits or checkouts
be done. The actual process would only take a few minutes.

I don't think this should be a PMC vote. Just do it if no-one objects :D

IOW: sure, +1. Go ahead!

Cocoon had a problem because it used CVS branching--which we
have avoided to this date.

+1 go for it, if you are confident it'll work.

Just one question: Stefano did this to Cocoon a while ago with
mixed results (I think the tags got messed up). Do you know
anything about that, what caused it, and so on? Or have you
done this before and know that what you're abot to do works?
