1.6 possibly ready for alpha release
Brendan and all,
I've just updated cvs with a bunch of changes. I've done most of the
regressive issues I listed previously. Remaining are:
1. Visual representation of threads running (blinking lights) - I'd prefer to
not put this in 1.6. It's a performance drain. If some indication is needed
that JMeter is running, I suggest we brainstorm an alternative.
2. BarVisualizer, WindowedVisualizer, and MailerVisualizer are not converted
yet
3. Interleave logic control not generated
4. Remote Engine is almost there, but I may need some help to finish.
Furthermore, testing of the JDBC and the FTP modules is necessary.
Other new additions: Except for ConfigElements, each type of object in the
Tree has its own image. All objects can be saved and restored. Remote
testing is very close to being fully automatable from the gui.
It appears to me that what's currently in CVS is more or equally useful to
users than the released 1.5.1 version (the remaining regressive issues seem
pretty trivial to me), and I was thinking we might want to do an alpha
release so that we can get some more feedback, and so that users can benefit
from the improvements.
Any thoughts? Issues anyone thinks must be dealt with before such a release?

It is the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) that is the legal entity that
"owns" the code. "Jakarta" is meaningless from a legal standpoint.

do this:
./build.sh docs

yup. not my itch.

Ok, I'll put the license text in, and I'll start revamping the documentation
to reflect v1.6. I'll also replace the references to Apache and replace with
Jakarta (BTW, the license you linked to reads Apache everywhere and not
Jakarta - is that correct?).
I'm not sure what regenerating the xml files means, but Brendan probably
does....
I'll also make a Windows batch file equivalent for build.sh

update: i figured out a way to get most of the permission stuff resolved.
now, i just need brendan to do this:
chmod -R g+w /www/jakarta.apache.org/jmeter/dist
still, before doing anything else on the server, please set your umask to
002.
thanks,

I just did a cvs update -Pd and that fixed this issue. the other three are
pretty major though and brendan really needs to fix permissions on the files
he has recently checked in. ug

Ok, here is my list of criteria before the next release can be made live:
#1. fix the build system.
./build.sh compile
(has failures looking for a non-existent package)
#2. clean up the website. remove all the old references to Java Apache and
replace them with Jakarta. also convert any remaining .html files to .xml
and regenerate them.
#3. update the license to use the ASF License 1.1 with the appropriate
"Jakarta JMeter" substituted. this should be done in ALL of the source files
as well as the website and LICENSE file. example:
<http://jakarta.apache.org/turbine/license.html>
#4. brendan needs to chmod -R g+x /www/jakarta.apache.org/jmeter
(note: please set your umask to 002 so that this isn't an issue in the
future)
thanks,
