how to recognize user logouts on jetspeed 1.4?

Hello,

how can I recognize if a user has closed his browser or if his sessions has
timed out? It's no problem if he manually logs out. 

I tried it with the implemented session manager but I get more logout events
than user have ever logged in.

Someone has a hint, please?!
