Connecting to HDFS

Hi Users,

How can i verify whether i can able connecting to *hdfs://<IP>:<portno>/<hdfs
directory>*

is having any command to check whether I'm able to connect  hdfs?

hadoop fs -ls *hdfs://<IP>:<portno>/<hdfs directory>*
