   This PR has now been open for nearly two years and the last update was a year ago. So I'm closing this PR as we had no progress towards merging it and it's also not clear whether the problem this PR is trying to address is actually still a problem in the current driver. The discussion also derailed quite a bit here which makes it hard to actually concentrate on the underlying problem and a possible solution.
   If the problem still persists in the current driver, then please open an issue [in JIRA](https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TINKERPOP/) so we can try to better understand the problem.
