This could not be reproduced using Open office 4.1.1on :-
- mac os x with version 10.8.5 (with a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5)
- windows 8.1 32 bit operating system

After downloading the attached file, and re-saving it so that it was editable,
I followed the steps.

Steps
1. Open the file
2. Click on the table in the slide
3. Click another table layout in the table design section of the side pane.

This was tested using all default Apache Open Office settings.

I retried these steps whilst varying the settings of the table design so that
the checkboxes were selected for header row, total row, banded rows, first
column, last column and banded columns.
